Another commissioned work. This pigeon is made from teak that comes from an old cutting board. It rest on a little piece of poured concrete, epoxy and a very small piece of teak. To make it a bit more realistic I might consider to add some bird droppings to the concrete. As the ancient Greeks said “ They will shit on everything you love”
Dwarf quail, no ears attached. Made from douglas scrapwood and old copper pipe. Finished with linseed oil. More or less life size because of the nice annual rings.
My second kingfisher a.k.a. ijsvogel in commission.
Made from an old teak cutting board and a piece of old 15 mm copper pipe. It’s my second bird with copper so I have a little experience with embossing copper, but it’s fun to do. Luckily this wooden bird was also very patience.
My wife said, this is your master piece (I love her). So you can call me master, master Shifu please. 🤪
Some Dutch people say rammelaar (rattle) to a male hare. This one rattles. Made from scrapwood olive finished with parrafin oil and beewax of course. Waiter there’s a hare in my soup (Dutch humor)
According some saying “one swallow doesn’t make a summer”, here’s number two. Positioned on his habitat, the roof tile. Of course I granted this bird its own trauma, so I mistreated it with hydrogen peroxide and bleach powder. Suffer to be beautiful.
Our Dutch pride, the common kingfisher a.k.a. “ijsvogel”. Made in commission. Made from an old teak cutting board, a little piece of copper pipe and a sardine tin. Embossing copper was quite a new experience for me, but it’s fun to do. Luckily the wooden bird was very patience.
Finished my Louis van Teeffelen upholstery project last weekend. Abused by crazy cats and other insane beings. Adding lots of tlc it became a stylish old lady.
How do you call this being? Some literal translations of Dutch sayings came up, like weird bird and a strange duck in the pond. Whatever, this beech boy is a funny guy.
Two little cats, made form an old teak cutting board. I could call them Jacob and Hermann. Curiosity killed almost one of the cats. I was a bit too hasty, split almost its head when I used a hammer to fit an eye. Luckily there’s always something like wood glue. #jacobhermann #midcentury #teak #danishdesign #woodworking #smallsculptures #cats #dremel #woodglue

Made this little side table about a year ago. Perfect design for lazy people. I found a chunk of teak sapwood in a local thrift store. Its raw round shapes inspired me to make this table. Bending a 15 mm copper pipe and some softening and smoothing as well completed this table. #sidetable #teak #organicshapes #midcentury #dutchdesign #woodworking.

Renovation project from a while ago. Before, a battered old dressing table with a giant mirror. After, a nice legged mid century modern lowboard. De mirror will be converted into a hall mirror. Made a nice old-fashioned chopping board for my mother. Doubted about the right finishing oil. Chosen for the subtle bitter sweet taste and faded green color of extra vergin olive oil 😀. #dambord #teak #midcentury #oliveoil #woodworking #scrapwood #kitchen #vintage #dutchdesign #danishdesign #woodcrafting.
